BEYOND POSITIVE THINKING



During the past century people have come to rely more on the brain's ability to think logically than on the mind's great imaginative powers. However, it is your imagination that provides the sparks that ignite the fire for change. In Chapter 7 I show you how to use your imagination to fuel your burning desire for permanent weight loss. The creative processes of the mind certainly are not new and have been the subject of extensive research in recent years by psychologists.

On page 61 I tell you about researchers at the University of Chicago who conducted an experiment to test the imaging powers of the mind. The results show you how to use your own imagination to achieve your weight loss objectives. So, how can you put the power of your mind to work? You probably already have without putting a name to it. For example, when I was 12 years old I was a gymnast. I had trouble sleeping so I did my parallel bar routine over and over in my mind. For months I practiced my routine in my mind. Even though I actually practiced on each gymnastic apparatus equally, I excelled on the parallel bars. My parallel bar routine in exhibition and competition was always flawless. When I engaged in my "mental gymnastics" it was because I had a burning desire to succeed as a gymnast. At the time, I was simply going over and over in my mind the many moves required in my routine. In Chapter 7 I explain that through doing research I discovered that while my actions were definitely affecting my memory, I was also physically affecting my muscles.

Chapter 7 also discusses how techniques similar to those I developed for EverTrim are also used by successful people in business and sports to achieve desired results. In the other links under the Power Thinking Action Step, I discuss the specific techniques I developed to achieve my weight loss goals.
