POWER STATEMENTS
Power Statements consist of key words and phrases that put you in charge of your life on a thought by thought basis. They are designed to help you establish and maintain a particular perspective about who you are and where you are going. You are already using Power Statements when Talking Back to your negative thoughts. The more you do it, the more effective it becomes because one of the primary elements in reconditioning the subconscious mind is repetition. In Chapter 7 I discuss the difference between confrontational techniques like Talking Back and techniques that can influence your subconscious mind more indirectly. Oftentimes, it is better to go around the subconscious instead of making declarations that increase resistance. On page 66 I explain that when you use certain techniques can be as important as what you say. It can also be very helpful to record Power Statements on your own CD or tape. You can then use this recording to help you relax and focus your mind on the thoughts you want to have. In addition to developing your own Power Statements, in Chapter 7 I discuss key statements and research information that you can incorporate into this tape. Listening to important research facts and interactive Power Statements will help you maintain a positive perspective through the day.
